Full Timer Financing

We found a new Allegro Bus we really liked. The sales person told us that since we didn't really own physical property it would be almost impossible to get financing as a "full timer". Has anyone else ben told this and if so what did you do about it? Thanks Bob W

RE: Help on ant problem

Can someone please tell me where I can buy the "Terro Ant Bait"? We've had small ant problems from time to time so this sounds like just what I need. Thanks Bob W.

Blog Forum

I think it would be great if we had a Forum just for Blogs. This would be a place where members could post their Blogs and if anyone needed help in starting a Blog they could get help. Let's think about it gang. Bob W

RE: Tow Truck cost for a Motorhome.

Hi Robert. If you have a break down and need a tow and have Coach-Net Roadside Service then it won't cost you anything. I had a problem a couple od years ago on a SAT and they towed me to an RV Park for weekend and then towed me to repair shop MON, the trip was about 175 miles and it didn't cost me anythng for either tow. You need to get a good roadside service plan if you're going to travel. I'd highly recommend Coach-Net. Happy Trails Bob.

RE: Camera question?

Gary you didn't say which Canon Rebel Camera you have. I just bought a Canon Rebel XS and according to the owner manual on page 64 you can change the MP to any setting you want. Refer to page 64 of your owners manual and follow the steps given. Congrats on getting a good DSLR, I hope you take some good pictures. In case you want to remain at the factory set MP settings, you can download Picasa 3 and it'll resize your pictures so you can either email them or put them on a web site. You can go to Google, enter Picasa and download it, its free too. Good luck. Bob W

RE: Best bets for full time insurance

Hi Travelers: I had GMAC through MONACO for about 8 years and each year it went up, when I called them they would say that TN had a rate increase, yea right. I recently checked out AARP (Hartford) and was able to get more coverage and save about $800 a year too. If you're 50 or betteryou might want to check out AARP. Happy Trails Bob W.

RE: Catapillar or Cummins

Hi Eric, if you're more into torque then get a Cummins. I have a 315 Cummins which produces 950 lbs of torque at 1400 rpm, the 350 CAT will produce 840 lbs of torque at 1400 rpm. Remember it's the torque that gets you over the mountains. The Cummins I have is scheduled for oil changes at 15,000 miles, the CAT is not that long. Good luck on your new DP. Happy Trails Bob W

RE: Black Tank Additives

Hi Want-a-be: I've been using "Dr Drain" for 7 years now and it works great. It is about the same as "Rid-ex" but a little cheaper. You can get it at Wally World. It calls for 2 cap fulls in each refil. I put about 4-5 toilet bowls of water in the black water tank and then add the 2 cap full. I've found that under normal use I can run my tank about 10 days with No Odor. Give it a try I believe you'll like it. Happy Trails BobW

RE: FMCA mail forwarding

Barb, both my MH and toad are registered in TN and the plates for BOTH are $50.00. I have no desire to change registration and no I don't pay income tax in TN. Also I don't have to worry with the TX inspection process each year either. Bob W

RE: FMCA mail forwarding

Hi Barb: earlier this year while in TX I called Escapee and asked how much it would cost be to become a member so that I could vote in TX. The lady I spoke to (she didn't give me a name) told me I'd have to join Escapee, register both my RV and toad in TX, sign up for mail forwarding service and a few other things I don't really remember. The total cost was going to be $350. That sounds like a little too mch for me. Bob W

RE: Don't Make the Mistake I Did, Read Your Insurance Policy

That's the main reason I have Coach-Net road side assistance. In 2006 I had a break down on a Saturday and had to be towed to an RV park for the weekend and then towed 160 miles to repair shop. They payed for both tows with no questions asked. Like they say "don't leave home without it". Happy Trails. BobW

FMCA mail forwarding

I received a notice from FMCA Mail Forwarding Service that effective 1 JAN 09 they were going to charge $5 per month fee, this will be deducted from your postage account. I guess this was due but it's still cheaper than Escapees or Good Sam. Bob W

RE: Love's TS fuel surcharge

Hi Jim: We just filled up our diesel MH at Flying J in Greenwood, LA. Their price was $3.93 and with their RV card I got a 1 cent discount. Right across the road is a Love's and their price is $3.95 Cash. If I can't find a Flying J and there is a Love's right close, I'll drive further to get fuel somewhere else. Don't like Love's at all. Happy Trails BobW.

RE: Insurance vs. Full-Timers insurance

We've been full timing since 2000 and started with Progressive. They increased their rates and I changed to GMAC and they saved me about $300 but over the time they have been getting higher. Now I've gone with AARP Hartford and they saved be over $800 and I got more coverage. It pays to shop around. Happy Trails. Bob W.

RE: Mileage on Diesel pushers

Hi Evie, I have a 2000 40 foot Monaco Diplomat with a 315 Cummins and I normally drive 60 mph and tow a Honda CRV, I average in the high 8's to low 9's. My coach weighs 29K lbs. I had a gas burner before and the best I ever got was 7 mpg and that was without a toad. I'll never go back to a gas burner. Get a diesel and be happy with it. Happy Trails Bob W.

Highway Information

I recently got a great book about Yukon and I have a question about the highway from Whitehorse to Dawson City on Hwy 2. I'll be driving 40 foot diesel motor home pulling a Honda CRV. Would I have any problems going on that road? It looks as though there are lots of interesting places to see on that road. I will come back on the ALCAN when I get ready to come home. Thanks for any assistance. Bob W.

Best Time to Travel Across Canada

We plan to travel across Canada next year and had planned to begin about mid May from Edmonton to Dawson Creek and the ALCAN hwy. I've just recently read a Blog from someone who was in the Whitehorse area about mid May and he said most of the campgrounds, restaurants and sites to see were closed, he also said the fuel stops were also closed. With this in mind I'd like to know what would be the best time to travel across the ALCAN. I'd really appreciate any advise I can get, thanks. Bob W.

Crossing Border

We're planning a trip across Canada into Alaska next year. My wife makes custom jewelry and we carry it in the back of our CRV. We're thinking about bringing it into the RV and I'd like to know if we'll have any problems crossing the Border with it? We don't plan to try to sell any of it on our trip but she just wants to keep it with her. I'd appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks Bob W.

Dish HD Receiver

I recently purchased a HD LCD TV and want to be able to get Dish HD programs. I have a MotoSat Satellite system and with it I can pick up a dozen or more HD channels with no purchase from Dish. Can anyone recommend the proper HD receiver from Dish to use? I don't want to purchase any additional channels. Thanks for your help. Happy Trails Bob W
